Mastering Hue Selection Through Color Matching In Color Theory, a hue is the pure form of a color – red, blue, green, or yellow – before adding black, white, or gray. “Hue selection” is the process of choosing which base colors will define your overall palette.  It’s not just about picking “light blue” or “dark blue,” but deciding which colors belong together in the first place.    Why is this important?  Our brains naturally respond to relationships between colors.  When hues work well together, a space or design feels: Harmonious – calm and visually cohesive Balanced – nothing feels overpowering or out of place Intentional – purposely designed rather than random Poor matching of colors, on the other hand, can feel visually noisy or uncomfortable – even if you can’t immediately explain why. Another important aspect of color matching is temperature.  Colors have emotional “temperature.”  Warm hues (reds, oranges, yellows): energetic, inviting, cozy Cool hues (blues, greens, purples): calm, open, and spacious.  Strong color palettes rarely rely on just one temperature.  Instead, they balance warm and cool hues to create depth and interest.
